Comparing hair transplants in the UK and Turkey
Compare the named surgeon, treatment location, written cost and aftercare plan. The country and advertised package price alone do not tell you how a procedure will be carried out.

Check who is responsible for your care
Ask who will assess you, design the treatment, perform each surgical stage and manage any complications. Obtain the clinician’s full name and check their registration with the relevant regulator. Registration and a review score do not replace a discussion about experience, the proposed procedure and its risks.
For treatment in England, check the provider and location with the Care Quality Commission and check the doctor’s registration with the General Medical Council. Other UK nations have different healthcare regulators. For treatment in Turkey, establish which regulator covers the named clinician and facility and how to verify their records.
Compare complete quotations
A quotation should describe the procedure, expected graft range and what happens if the plan changes after examination. Ask whether medicines, dressings, review appointments and any additional treatment are included.
For an overseas procedure, add flights, accommodation, local transport and any return visits. Check what a package actually covers and who bears the cost if the operation is postponed. An advertised price is not an individual clinical assessment.
Plan aftercare before travelling
Find out how soon you will be examined after surgery, who can review a concern once you return home and how to get advice outside normal hours. Ask whether follow-up is in person or remote and what happens if a photograph is insufficient to assess the problem.
Do not assume a local clinic will take over routine care for an operation performed elsewhere. The NHS explains the practical risks of cosmetic surgery abroad, including follow-up arrangements. Agree a plan with the provider before paying.
Allow for recovery
The scalp needs protection after surgery. Travel, exercise, swimming and time in the sun should follow the treating team’s instructions. A trip for surgery requires a recovery plan even when a package also includes a hotel or other travel services.
Check when you may travel and whether your travel insurance covers the purpose of the trip and any complications. Obtain the insurer’s answer in writing rather than relying on a standard holiday policy.
Questions for either provider
- Why is this procedure suitable for my pattern of loss and donor area?
- Who performs each stage, and how can I verify their credentials?
- What are the main risks and limitations in my case?
- What is included in the written price?
- Who examines me if healing concerns me after I leave?
- How are complications, additional visits and corrective treatment handled?
Keep the treatment plan, quotation and aftercare terms. Take time to compare the answers and ask about anything unclear before committing.
Questions and answers
Can the country alone tell me whether a clinic is suitable?
No. Check the particular surgeon, treatment location, proposed procedure and aftercare arrangements. Compare written plans rather than relying on a country label or package price.
What should I confirm about follow-up when travelling?
Ask who will assess you if there is a problem after you return, how you can contact them, and whether further visits or treatment would cost extra. Get the arrangements in writing before booking.
Will ordinary travel insurance cover planned surgery?
Do not assume it does. Ask the insurer specifically about travelling for treatment and complications connected with it, and read the policy terms before paying for travel or surgery.
